Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), India’s leading oil and gas exploration and production company, has announced its financial results for the second quarter of the fiscal year 2026-27, revealing a significant surge in profitability and shareholder returns. The company reported a standalone net profit of ₹15,489 crore for Q2, marking a 57.3% increase from the same period last year. This impressive performance was driven by a 32.8% rise in standalone gross revenue, which reached ₹43,875 crore.
The consolidated net profit for the quarter also saw a substantial increase, climbing 46.9% to ₹18,535 crore. ONGC’s Board of Directors has approved the highest ever interim dividend of ₹10,064 crore, equivalent to ₹8 per share or 160%, reflecting the company’s robust financial health and commitment to rewarding its shareholders. The record date for the distribution of this dividend has been set for 12th November 2026.
In addition to its financial achievements, ONGC has made significant strides in its operational and exploration activities. The company has awarded two major development projects in the Western Offshore region, with a combined investment of approximately ₹11,800 crore. These projects are expected to unlock an estimated 22 MMTOE of hydrocarbon potential, bolstering future production capabilities. Furthermore, ONGC has notified two new hydrocarbon discoveries during the quarter, enhancing its exploration portfolio.
Despite the positive financial results, ONGC faced challenges in maintaining stable production levels due to reservoir behaviour complexities and monsoon-related operational challenges. However, the company has taken proactive measures by engaging M/s bp as a Technical Service Provider to enhance production from its mature fields. Analysts view ONGC’s strong financial performance and strategic initiatives as positive indicators for its future growth and sustainability in the competitive energy sector.
