Summary: The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN), through its advisory dated 1 November 2026, has announced changes to the process for amending GST registration particulars following Notification No. 05/2026-Central Tax dated 26 October 2026. The notification substitutes Rule 19 of the CGST Rules, 2017, introducing electronic processing and automatic acceptance of specified registration amendments. Amendments involving the Principal Place of Business generally continue to require examination by the proper officer. Other amendments, including changes to the legal name, partners, directors, Karta, additional places of business and other particulars furnished in FORM GST REG-01, can take effect upon submission and successful online validation, subject to the applicable requirements. The revised process requires OTP verification of the mobile number and email address of the Primary Authorised Signatory and one selected promoter, partner, director or other specified person. Taxpayers must complete this verification within three days of submitting the amendment application; otherwise, the Application Reference Number will not be generated. The system also validates PAN, Director Identification Number and Corporate Identification Number, wherever applicable. Following successful verification, the amended registration certificate becomes available electronically. Taxpayers are advised to provide accurate particulars, upload supporting documents with FORM GST REG-14 and complete all mandatory validations.
