Mumbai, October 27, 2026: Tata Power, a leading integrated power company in India, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to develop a 110 kV power infrastructure. This initiative aims to meet the 90 MW power requirement of BPCL’s Petro Resid Fluidized Catalytic Cracking Unit (PRFCCU) project at its Mumbai Refinery.

The PRFCCU project is a pioneering effort in India’s refining sector, marking the first of its kind in the country. It represents a significant strategic milestone for BPCL, focusing on higher-value product recovery and petrochemical diversification. With a processing capacity of 3 million metric tonnes per annum and a project outlay of approximately ₹14,203 crore, it stands as BPCL’s second-largest project currently under execution and the largest ever undertaken at the Mumbai Refinery. The project is expected to enhance domestic value addition, contributing to India’s energy security and aligning with the national vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

Under the MoU, Tata Power will provide 110 kV connectivity and undertake the design and development of the necessary power infrastructure to support the project’s power needs. The infrastructure development involves a substantial investment aimed at strengthening power connectivity and transmission infrastructure. The development is projected to be completed over 24 months, with a combined estimated outlay of approximately ₹250 crore for Tata Power and BPCL, contingent upon applicable approvals and project milestones.

This initiative not only addresses BPCL’s immediate power requirements but also strengthens Tata Power’s transmission network in the Trombay area. This enhancement is poised to support anticipated growth in electricity demand from large industrial consumers and other concentrated-load developments in this strategically important industrial zone. Tata Power’s long-term plans include further strengthening its transmission infrastructure at Trombay with a 400 kV transmission facility over the next five years, which is expected to boost power evacuation capability and support reliable grid availability for Mumbai’s industrial and commercial ecosystem.

Analysts view this collaboration as a significant step towards bolstering Mumbai’s energy infrastructure and enhancing energy security. It underscores Tata Power’s commitment to investing in transmission and distribution infrastructure to support long-term industrial growth and energy self-reliance in India.
