Summary: The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI), through Notification F. No. CMA (1) 2026 dated 21st July, 2026, has modified the requirement relating to Mandatory Capacity Building Training (MCBT) for practicing Cost Accountants. The notification partially modifies the decision taken by the Council at its 315th Meeting held on 20th and 28th September, 2018, along with the consequential notifications published in the Gazette of India on 1st February, 2019 and 8th March, 2019. Those earlier decisions concerned implementation of MCBT for practicing Cost Accountants who obtained their Certificate of Practice on or after 1st February, 2019. At its 369th Meeting held on 21st July, 2026, the Council resolved that the requirement of undergoing Mandatory Capacity Building Training shall henceforth be optional. Accordingly, practicing Cost Accountants covered by the earlier MCBT requirement will no longer be mandatorily required to undergo the training. The notification records this change as a partial modification of the Council’s earlier decision and the consequential Gazette notifications. The notification has been issued by CMA (Dr.) D. P. No. CMA (1) 2026.— In partial modification of the decision taken by the Council at its 315th Meeting held on 20th and 28th September, 2018, and the consequential notifications published in the Gazette of India on 1st February, 2019 and 8th March, 2019, regarding implementation of the Mandatory Capacity Building Training (MCBT) for practicing Cost Accountants who obtained their Certificate of Practice on or after 1st February, 2019, the Council, at its 369th Meeting held on 21st July, 2026, has resolved that the requirement of undergoing the said Mandatory Capacity Building Training (MCBT) shall henceforth be optional.
