SEBI issued Circular No. HO/ (79)2026-MIRSD-PODMMC dated 26-02-2026 regulating securities market-related content posted on social media platforms (SMPs), effective for content uploaded on or after May 01, 2026. The objective is to clearly distinguish between content shared by SEBI-registered/regulated entities and their agents versus unregistered persons, while strengthening conduct standards, enhancing transparency, protecting investors, and ensuring ease of investment. The circular applies to intermediaries registered under Section 12 of the SEBI Act, 1992, Asset Management Companies (AMCs) of mutual funds, Investment Managers of AIFs and Infrastructure Investment Trusts, and Managers of Real Estate Investment Trusts, as defined under Regulation 16A of SEBI (Intermediaries) Regulations, 2008. Regulated entities and their agents must disclose their registered name and registration number on the homepage of their social media handle and at the beginning of each video or content. Specific disclosure formats apply for single or multiple registrations and for agents, including weblinks where applicable.
I. The purpose of this is to make the difference in the content posted by registered/regulated and their agents OR unregistered persons & to;
- Strengthen the conduct of registered entities; increase the transparency, for investor protection, ensuring ease of investment.
- It is given in the circular that :
*following are the person regulated by the board ( or registered with SEBI) as given in Explanation 1 of Reg.16A of SEBI Intermediaries Regulation, 2008;

II. content which is related to securities market, uploaded on SMP sincludes content/videos blished/broadcasted/uploaded/posted on any SMP (whether in closed groups or publicly available groups) like YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, X, Linked In, Threads, Telegram, Reddit etc
- the person regulated by the board/SEBI has same meaning as provided in Chapter IIIA-Explanation1 of Reg.16A of SEBI Intermediaries Regulations, 2008
- With respect to uploading/posting content on SMPs regulated entities and their agents shall ensure compliance with the following:
