In Somasundaram v. ITO, the Madras High Court considered a writ petition seeking a mandamus to cancel the petitioner’s new PAN (CKCPV1176J) and to reissue his old PAN (FTSPS6723N) by considering his application dated 11.02.2025. The respondent submitted before the Court that the petitioner’s new PAN card had already been cancelled. It was further stated that if the petitioner made the necessary application for restoration of the old PAN, the same would be restored. This submission was recorded by the Court.
After considering the rival submissions and perusing the materials on record, the Court directed the petitioner to make the necessary application to restore his old PAN. The respondent was directed to serve a copy of the order cancelling the new PAN card on the petitioner. With these directions, the writ petition was disposed of without costs.

This writ petition has been filed for a mandamus to direct the respondent to cancel petitioner’s new pan card in PAN. CKCPV1176J and consequently direct the respondent to re issue petitioner old pan card in PAN.FTSPS6723N by considering petitioners application in Ac .No. 645922410333, dated 11.02.2025 in accordance with law, within time stipulated by this Court.
