What is KYC? Why is it required? Response: KYC means ‘Know Your Customer’. It is a process by which banks obtain information about the identity and address of the customers. This process helps to ensure that banks’ services are not misused. The KYC procedure is to be completed by the banks while opening accounts and also periodically update the same.
A registered institution/ organisation/ association, having a viable project /proposal on Depositors’ Education and Awareness, may be eligible for assistance from the Fund. However, mere registration should not make any registered institution/ organization/ association automatically eligible for claiming financial assistance from the Fund.

Reserve Bank said that now the notes in Mahatma Gandhi series have been in circulation for a decade. A majority of the old notes have also been withdrawn through bank branches. It has, therefore, decided to withdraw the remaining old design notes from circulation. Not having currency notes in multiple series in circulation at the same time is a standard international practice, the Reserve Bank has pointed out.
(i) In the event of a default in maintenance of minimum balance/average minimum balance as agreed to between the bank and customer, the bank should notify the customer clearly by SMS/ email/ letter etc. that in the event of the minimum balance not being restored in the account within a month from the date of notice, penal charges will be applicable.

With effect from 29.12.2014 RBI has extended the working hours for Weekdays / Regular Days to 08.00 Am to 08.00 PM from existing 09.00 AM to 04.30 PM and it further extended the working hours for RTGS on Saturdays / Short Days to 08.00 Am to 03.30 PM from existing 09.00 AM to 02.00 PM.
