Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced the inclusion of two cooperative banks in the Second Schedule of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934. As per notifications dated July 25, 2025, “Deogiri Nagari Sahakari Bank Ltd., Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar” and “Ahmednagar Merchant’s Co-operative Bank Ltd., Ahmednagar” have been added to the schedule. The inclusion of Deogiri Nagari Sahakari Bank Ltd. was made through Notification No. CO.DOR.RAUG.No.S2018/08.02.636/2025-2026 dated June 12, 2025, while the inclusion of Ahmednagar Merchant’s Co-op Bank Ltd. was effected through Notification No. CO.DOR.RAUG.No.S2017/08.02.001/2025-26, also dated June 12, 2025. Both notifications were subsequently published in the Gazette of India (Part III – Section 4) on July 8, 2025. These additions signify that both banks now meet the prescribed regulatory criteria to be recognized under the Second Schedule of the RBI Act, allowing them access to certain banking facilities from the RBI, including accommodation and membership to clearing houses. The notifications were issued by Manoranjan Padhy, Chief General Manager, and addressed to all banks. The move is part of the RBI’s ongoing oversight and regulation of the banking sector, particularly in the cooperative banking segment.
