The Reserve Bank of India, through a circular dated March 30, 2026, has notified the assignment of Lead Bank responsibility following the creation of a new district, Kushavati, in the State of Goa by the Government of Goa. In accordance with the Lead Bank Scheme, the State Bank of India has been designated as the Lead Bank for the newly formed district. Additionally, a District Working Code “02W” has been allotted to Kushavati for administrative and banking coordination purposes. The circular clarifies that there is no change in Lead Bank responsibilities for other districts in Goa. This notification ensures continuity and effective implementation of banking and financial inclusion initiatives in the newly constituted district by assigning a responsible bank for coordination of credit planning and development activities under the Lead Bank Scheme framework.

Formation of new district in the State of Goa –
Assignment of Lead Bank Responsibility
The Government of Goa has notified formation of new district, viz., Kushavati in the state of Goa vide Gazette Notification No. 16/29/1/2023-Rev-I/3259 dated December 31, 2025. Accordingly, it has been decided to designate the Lead Bank of the new district as below:
