FM meets CBDT, CBEC offcials and asks to focus on collection of arrears to maximise the revenue collection

FM steps up talks on revenue collection for ’11-12

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee held discussions on ways to step up revenue collection for 2011-12 with top officials of Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) and Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) in Chennai.

An official release said the meeting discussed steps for augmentation for revenue in the remaining part of the financial year.

In his address, Mukherjee suggested that the officials focus on litigations in various appellate forums and collection of arrears to maximise the revenue collection.

The release said that in the meeting challenges faced by the CBEC and CBDT were also discussed and a strategy was also drawn to achieve the revenue target.
