The Government today extended the date for filing of income tax returns by a month in three districts of Maharashtra.”The due date of filing income tax returns, due by September 30, 2009, of tax payer assessed to income tax in the districts of Pune, Sangli and Kolhapur, has been extended to October 31, 2009,”the Central Board of Direct taxes said in a statement. The CBDT, however, did not give any reason for the extension. Official notification in this regard will be issued in due course, it said.

It should be uniform to all over India,all are expecting the same.
THE CBDT has made injustice by allowing only 3 districts by giving extention for one month. As no festivals or natural calamities occured in other area.
It’s not clear why extension of time has been granted only to Pune, Sangli and Kolhapur.
No wonder, we should try to adhere to the dealine of September 30, lest, it would add accumulated work – Carry forward and set-off of work will only result in professional pains and losses.
It is a very welcome decision.
