CBI ARRESTS AN INCOME TAX OFFICER WHILE ACCEPTING BRIBE OF RS. ONE LAKH
The Central Bureau of Investigation has today arrested an Income Tax Officer, Ward-34 (1) (4), Mumbai for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. One lakh from the complainant.
A case was registered against the accused U/s 7 of PC Act 1988 on a complaint alleging demand of bribe for completion of Assessment of Income of complainant’s sister for the Financial Year 2009-10. It was further alleged that on being called upon by ITO, the complainant and his sister met him on 29.12.2017 at his office with regard to the assessment of her income tax for the Financial Year 2009-10 where he handed over the Assessment Order and demanded Rs. 1.25 lakh for the favours shown to her in the order. After negotiation, the accused agreed to accept Rs. One lakh. CBI laid a trap and caught the accused while accepting the bribe of Rs. One lakh.
Searches are being conducted today at the office and residential premises of accused in Mumbai.
The accused will be produced tomorrow in the Designated Court, Mumbai.
