New Delhi, July 6 (PTI) In a major haul, the VAT department of Government of Delhi has confiscated 56 trucks in the capital for transporting goods without paying the required taxes. The trucks were confiscated in an operation carried out by 15 teams comprising officials of VAT department last night during which checkings were carried out on 463 vehicles on all interstate roads connecting Delhi.
The movement of goods around major markets was also monitored during this drive, officials from VAT department said.

Earlier in the month of June, the department had confiscated 259 vehicles which were carrying goods without proper documents, and tax and penalty of Rs 1.23 crore was realised from them.

The Trade and Taxes Department is making intensive efforts to ensure full tax compliance and as part of these efforts, the Department will continue to carry out regular checkings of goods vehicles with a view to detect evasion of VAT, the officials said.
