Proposed cuts in GST rates by 56th Meeting of GST Council will be implemented from September 22, due to which many common necessities will become cheaper. At the same time, GST rates have also been increased on some items. Which thing has come in which slab of your work,  here is the complete list of cheap and expensive products.

The government has given a pre-Diwali gift to the common man of the country. In the 56th meeting of the GST Council held in New Delhi on Wednesday, several major decisions have been taken. Under this, the tax slab was reduced, which will reduce the tax rate on all goods. The new rates will be applicable from  22 September 2025. Under the new GST reform, prices of more than 100 items are going to be reduced. Tax rates have been reduced on  goods, everyday items,  agricultural products and health products.

At the same time,  tax has been increased on luxury vehicles, tobacco products, caffeinated beverages and even tickets for cricket matches.  Here’s what has become cheaper and what has become expensive under the new GST reform.

Food Items

  • Vegetable fats/oils in 12% to 5%
  • Wax, vegetable wax in 18% to 5%
  • Meat, fish, food products  in 12% to 5%
  • Dairy products (butter, ghee, paneer, thickener/paneer) in 12% to 5%
  • Soy milk in 12% to 5%
  • Sugar, boiled sweets in 12%-18% to 5%
  • Chocolate and cocoa powder in 18% to 5%
  • Pasta, Corn Flakes, Noodles, Biscuits, Malt Extract (Non-Cocoa) in 12%-18% to 5%
  • Jam, jelly, marmalade, nuts/fruit paste, dried fruits, nuts in 12% to 5%
  • Fruit juice, coconut water in 12% to 5%
  • Pre-packaged pizza bread, khakhra, chapati, roti 5% to Nil

GST on Consumer and Domestic Goods

  • Hair Oil, Shampoo, Toothpaste, Shaving Products, Talcum Powder 18% to 5%
  • Toilet soap (bar/cake) 18% to 5%
  • Toothbrush, dental floss 18% to 5%
  • Shaving cream/lotion, aftershave 18% to 5%
  • General tableware/kitchenware (wood, iron, copper, aluminum, plastic) 12% to 5%
  • Feeding bottles and nipples, plastic beads 12% to 5%
  • Eraser 5% to Zero
  • Candles 12% to 5%
  • Umbrellas & Accessories 12% to 5%
  • Sewing Needles 12% to 5%
  • Sewing Machines & Parts 12% to 5%
  • Handbags made of cotton/jute 12% to 5%
  • Napkins/diapers for babies 12% to 5%
  • Furniture made entirely of bamboo, cane, rattan 12% to 5%
  • Milk cartons (iron/steel/aluminum) 12% to 5%
  • Pencil, Sharpener, Chalk 12% to Zero
  • Maps, Globes, Charts 12% to Zero
  • Practice Book, Notebook 12% 5% to Nil

electronics

  • Air Conditioner (AC) 28% to 18%
  • Dishwashing Machines 28% to 18%
  • TVs (LEDs, LCDs), monitors, projectors 28% to 18%

Agriculture & Fertilizer

  • Tractors (excluding road tractors with capacity more than 1800cc) 12% to 5%
  • Rear Tractor Tires/Tubes 18% to 5%
  • Agricultural Machinery for Soil/Harvesting/Threshing 12% to 5%
  • Composting Machines 12% to 5%
  • Sprinklers/Drip Irrigation/Lawn/Sports Rollers 12% to 5%
  • Bio-pesticides, micronutrients 12% to 5%
  • Pumps for fuel 28% to 18%
  • Hydraulic Pumps for Tractors 18% to 5%

GST on Health

  • Health & Term Insurance 18% to Nil
  • Thermometer, Diagnostic Kit 12% 18% to 5%
  • Blood Glucose Monitor (Glucometer) 12% to 5%
  • Medical Grade Oxygen & Hydrogen Peroxide 12% to 5%
  • Specs 12% to 5%
  • Medical/Surgical Rubber Gloves 12% to 5%
  • Many drugs and specialty drugs 12% to 5% or zero
  • Selected Rare Drugs 5% or 12% to Nil

Tax on Cars and Bikes

  • Tires 28% to 18%
  • Motor vehicles (small cars, three-wheelers, ambulances, motorcycles smaller than 350cc, commercial vehicles) 28% to 18%
  • Motorcycles larger than 350cc 28% to 40%
  • Large SUVs, Luxury/Premium Cars, Hybrid Cars Above Range, Racing Cars 28% to 40%
  • Rowing Boats/Canoes 28% to 18%
  • Bicycles & Non-Motor 3-wheelers 12% to 5%

Tobacco & Beverages

  • Cigars, cigarettes, tobacco products 28% to 40%
  • Beedi (traditional hand-made) 28% to 18%
  • Carbonated/aerated drinks, flavored drinks, caffeinated drinks 28% to 40%
  • Plant-based milk, beverages made from fruit pulp 18% or 12% to 5%

clothes

  • Synthetic Yarn, Unwoven Fabric, Sewing Thread, Staple Fiber 12% & 18% to 5%
  • Garment, Ready-made,  not exceeding ₹2,500 12% to 5%
  • Garment, Ready-made, Above ₹2,500 12% to 18%

GST Rate on Paper

  • Paper for exercise books, graph books, laboratory notebooks 12% to nil
  • Graphic paper 12% to 18%
  • Paper sacks or bags, biodegradable bags 18% to 5%

Handicrafts & Art

  • Carved art products (wood, stone, base metal, cork) 12% to 5%
  • Handmade paper and paperboard 12% to 5%
  • Handicraft Lamps 12% to 5%
  • Paintings, sculptures, pastels, antique collectibles 12% to 5%

Tax on Leather

  • Finished Leather 12% to 5%
  • Leather goods, gloves 12% to 5%

Tax on Building Construction Goods

  • Tiles, Bricks, Stone Inlay Work 12% to 5%
  • Portland, Slag, Hydraulic Cement 28% to 18%

Energy & Renewable Energy

  • Solar Cooker/Water Heater, Biogas/Wind/Waste-to-Energy/Solar Panel 12% to 5%
  • Fuel Cell Automotive 12% to 5%
  • Coal, lignite, peat 5% to 18%

Service Sectors

  • Job Work, Umbrella, Printing, Bricks, Pharmaceuticals, Skins/Leather  from 12% with ITC to 5% with ITC
  • Hotel accommodation less than ₹7,500  days 12% to 5%
  • Cinema (Tickets  under ₹100) 12% to 5%
  • Beauty Service 18% to 5% (No ITC)
