A man is obliged to accord due respect to his wife in society, a Delhi court has said, dismissing the anticipatory bail plea of a Haryana Police constable who has been accused of harassing his spouse.
Additional sessions judge S C Rajan rejected the bail plea of Satish Kumar, a constable in Haryana Police, against whom his wife had registered a complaint of harassment for dowry. Kumar’s counsel, while pleading for the anticipatory bail to him, said his client, working as a constable with Haryana Police since November, 2003, had got married in February, 2007 at Najafgarh here.
Denying allegations that he demanded dowry from his wife or harassed her, Kumar’s counsel sought bail for him saying he was ready to join the probe as and when required. The prosecution counsel, however, opposed his bail plea saying he and his family members have been demanding a dowry since the marriage was solemnised.

It is a pity that a very important topic like this has been handled very insensitively by the editor–Where is the judgement? What were the court’s observations and comments?
