Mumbai, October 22, 2026: Marico Limited, a prominent player in the Indian FMCG sector, has announced a substantial reduction in its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity, marking a significant milestone in its climate action journey. On the occasion of the International Day of Climate Action, the company reported an 89.3% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions intensity compared to its fiscal year 2013 baseline. Additionally, Marico achieved a 29.95% reduction in Scope 3 emissions intensity against its fiscal year 2019 baseline.
Guided by its ESG 2030 Roadmap, Marico is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions across its Indian operations by 2030 and globally by 2040. The company has integrated climate considerations into its business operations, focusing on supply chain management, innovation, circular packaging, resource allocation, and long-term growth planning. The progress in emissions reduction has been driven by increased adoption of renewable energy, energy-efficiency measures, process optimisation, and a transition to lower-carbon energy sources. In the fiscal year 2025-26, renewable energy constituted 77.3% of Marico’s operational energy consumption, with Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions intensity recorded at 0.84 tCO₂e per crore of revenue.
As part of its decarbonisation roadmap, Marico aims to achieve a 93% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030, compared to its fiscal year 2013 baseline. The company plans to address residual emissions through carbon sequestration initiatives and verified carbon offsets. Amit Bhasin, Chief Legal Officer and Group General Counsel of Marico Limited, emphasised the importance of sustainability in the company’s business strategy, stating, “Building a future-ready organisation requires sustainability to be embedded across operations, supply chains, and decision-making processes.”
Marico’s Climate Transition Plan unifies its climate initiatives, linking ambitions with implementation roadmaps, governance mechanisms, resource allocation, and measurable outcomes. This integrated approach aims to enhance business resilience, accelerate decarbonisation, and create long-term value for stakeholders while promoting sustainable growth. Analysts view Marico’s proactive measures as a positive step towards aligning with global sustainability trends, potentially setting a benchmark for other companies in the FMCG sector.
