Hyundai Motor Group has unveiled a significant investment plan amounting to USD 15.5 billion, aimed at bolstering its presence in India over the next seven years. This strategic move underscores India’s importance as a core market for Hyundai’s future growth and expansion into emerging markets. The announcement was made following a meeting between Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on October 13, 2026.
The comprehensive investment strategy will focus on several key areas, including manufacturing expansion, research and development (R&D) infrastructure, local supplier cultivation, and future technology innovation. Hyundai aims to establish a dedicated investment entity in India to efficiently manage and execute these investments. This entity will play a crucial role in identifying local partners and fostering collaboration with regional suppliers, thereby enhancing the local automotive ecosystem.
Hyundai’s commitment to India is further demonstrated by plans to expand manufacturing capacity across its Indian subsidiaries, Hyundai Motor India Limited and Kia India Pvt. Limited. This expansion is designed to support significant volume growth and meet local market demands, positioning India as a leading global export hub for Hyundai. Additionally, the Group plans to invest approximately USD 700 million in its Indian R&D centre, focusing on next-generation automotive technology development.
The investment is expected to generate substantial economic benefits for India, including the creation of high-quality employment opportunities across various sectors such as manufacturing, R&D, engineering, and supply chain management. By strengthening local supply chains and supporting supplier development, Hyundai aims to build a resilient automotive industry ecosystem in India. The Group also plans to explore emerging opportunities in future mobility services, including automotive financing, EV charging infrastructure, and vehicle recycling.
Analysts view this investment as a strategic move by Hyundai to capitalise on India’s rapidly growing automotive market. With a comprehensive production capacity of over 1.4 million vehicles annually, Hyundai is well-positioned to leverage India’s potential as a critical platform for its mid-to-long-term strategy. This initiative not only reinforces Hyundai’s commitment to India but also highlights the country’s pivotal role in the global automotive landscape.
