On May 18, 2006, the Government of India issued Notification No. 07 (RE-2006)/2004-2009, amending the import policy for fish lipid oil under Exim Code 15042020. The amendment allows for the free import of fish lipid oil, provided it meets specific quality standards, including a maximum of 0.10% free fatty acids (as oleic acid), a moisture limit of 0.5%, a peroxide value not exceeding 10 milli equivalent/kg, and a minimum of 15% combined Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) by weight. These changes were made in line with the Foreign Trade Policy 2004-09 and came into effect immediately.

S.O. (E) In exercise of powers conferred by Section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992 read with paragraph 2.1 of the Foreign Trade Policy – 2004-09, the Central Government hereby amends Schedule – I (Imports) of the ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items, 2004-09 as under:

“Fish Lipid Oil (containing Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) and Docosaphexaenoic Acid (DHA)) will be freely imported on the following prescribed standards:
