Notification No. 58 (RE-2005), issued on March 31, 2006, by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, introduces a mandatory labeling requirement for export cartons of meat products under Chapter 2 of Table B, Schedule 2 of the ITC(HS) Classification (2004–2009). The cartons must display the product name, country of origin, APEDA Plant Registration Number, and exporter’s name. This amendment, enacted under the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, aims to enhance traceability and compliance in meat exports. The directive ensures that all relevant details are visible on export packaging to meet international trade standards.

S.O.(E) In exercise of powers conferred by Section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992 (No.22 of 1992) read with Paragraph 1.1, 2.1, 2.4 and 2.29 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2004-2009, the Central Government hereby makes the following amendments in Table B of Schedule 2 of ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items, 2004-2009 : –
In Chapter 2 captioning “Meat and Edible Meat Offal”, the following Note 7 may be inserted after Note 6.
“On the cartons for export of meat, the following details shall compulsorily be mentioned : –
(i) Name of the Product.
(ii) Country of Origin
(iii) APEDA Plant Registration No.
(iv) Name of the exporter”
