The Government of India issued Notification No. 36 (RE-2005)/2004-2009, dated January 9, 2006, under the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, amending the export policy for groundnuts (peanuts) and their products. According to the amendment in Sl. No. 48, Chapter 12 of Schedule 2 of ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items (2004-2009), exporters to the European Union must ensure compulsory registration of contracts with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). Additionally, controlled aflatoxin level certification must be obtained from APEDA-nominated agencies or laboratories. This notification aims to maintain export standards and ensure compliance with EU import regulations. The amendment replaces the previous entry, which only applied to groundnuts, broadening the scope to include groundnut products. The directive was issued in the public interest by the Director General of Foreign Trade, K.T. Chacko, and is effective immediately.
