Notification No. 34(RE-2000) issued by the Government of India, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, on 11th September 2000, amends the Export and Import Policy for the period 1997-2002. The notification mandates that, from 1st October 2000, all exporters must mention an 8-digit ITC (HS) code in the shipping bill to claim any benefits under the policy. If no specific 8-digit code is applicable, the “others” category at the 8-digit level should be mentioned. This amendment aims to ensure better tracking and regulation of goods for export under the policy.

NOTIFICATION NO. 34 (RE-2000) 1997-2002

NEW DELHI: 11th September, 2000

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992 (No. 22 of 1992) read with paragraph 1.3 of the Export and Import Policy, 1997-2002 (incorporating amendment made upto 31.3.99), the Central Government hereby makes following amendments in the Export and Import Policy, 1997-2002: (incorporating amendment made upto 31.3.2000).

1. Following shall be added at the end of paragraph 4.1.

For the purpose of claiming any benefit under the Policy, it shall be obligatory to mention 8 digit ITC(HS) code invariably in the shipping bill with effect from 1st October, 2000. Wherever a specific code entry does not appear at the 8 digit level, the 8 digit of “others” in that category will be mentioned.

This issues in public interest.
