Directorate General of Foreign Trade in India has issued Policy Circular No. 2 (RE-98)/98-99, dated April 24, 1998, allowing the export of 32,700 metric tons (MT) of sugar from the free sale quota for the years 1997-98 and 1998-99 to the European Economic Community (EEC) and the United States. The allocation includes 10,200 MT of white sugar and 12,000 MT of raw sugar for the EEC under the 1997-98 quota, as well as 10,500 MT of raw sugar for the EEC under the 1998-99 quota. The Indian Sugar & General Industry Export Import Corporation Ltd. (ISGIEIC) is designated as the sole agency for these exports, which will require pre-shipment certification from the Export Inspection Council.

Subject:- Export of Sugar from the free sale quota of the year 1997-98 and 1998-99.

Attention is invited to the entry at Sl. No. 25 of Schedule 2 Appendix 1 of the book titled “ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items 1997-2002”.

2. It has been decided to release a ceiling of 32,700 (Thirty two thousand and seven hundred) MTs of Sugar from the free sale quota of 1997-98 and 1998-99 for export to EEC & USA under the preferential arrangement as per the details indicated below:-

i. 10,200 MTs of white sugar for export to EEC (1997-98 quota).

ii. 12,000 MTs of raw sugar for export to United States of America (1997-98 quota).

iii. 10,500 MTs of raw sugar for export to EEC (1998-99 quota).

3. The Indian Sugar & General Industry Export Import Corporation (ISGIEIC) Ltd. shall be the sole agency authorised to export raw/white sugar to the EEC and USA against the preferential ceiling as indicated above. The export of above quantity of raw/white sugar to the EEC and the USA under the preferential arrangement as indicated above shall also be subject to prescribed pre-shipment certification by the Export Inspection Council.
