Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has amended India’s import policy for platinum under HS Code 7110, as per Notification No. 60/2024-25 dated March 5, 2025. The revision, issued under the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, modifies the import classification for certain platinum products under Chapter 71 of ITC (HS) 2022, Schedule I. Under the new policy, the import of unwrought platinum (71101110), platinum in powder form (71101120), and other forms of platinum (71101900) has been changed from “Free” to “Restricted.” However, an exception has been made for platinum alloy containing 99% or more purity by weight of platinum, which will continue to have unrestricted import status. This policy change imposes stricter import controls on most platinum categories, requiring specific authorization for imports except for high-purity platinum alloys.
