Subject: Import of Split Cassia with label as Cinnamon – reg.

With regard to the subject mentioned above, it is informed that there have been cases of import of Split Cassia from Vietnam, entering through different ports (Chennai, Mundra etc) which are labelled as Cinnamon or Split Cassia (Cinnamon). Both the products are different in terms of their quality & physical parameters.

FSSAI has been taking appropriate action for those consignments which are referred for examination but there is a need to sensitize the field formations of Customs handling facilitated consignments op those officers posted at non FSSAI ports, to ensure that Cassia or Split Cassia is not imported with label of Cinnamon or Split Cassia (Cinnamon).

Thanking you,

Yours faithfully
