Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued a notification on 29 August 2025 amending its earlier notification dated 2 September 2021 regarding the appointment of Central Food Safety Officers (CFSOs). The amendment omits entry number 66 from the original table of postings and introduces a new entry after serial number 77. As per the updated list, Shri Suresh Bairwa has been appointed as Central Food Safety Officer for the Western Region, covering the States and Union Territories under that jurisdiction. This update forms part of FSSAI’s continuing exercise of its powers under Section 10(5) read with Section 37 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, to designate officers responsible for ensuring food safety standards at the central level. The notification, issued by FSSAI Chief Executive Officer Kamala Vardhana Rao, provides clarity on jurisdictional responsibilities and updates the roster of designated CFSOs. The last amendment to the principal notification had been made on 10 July 2025.

No. RCD-15001/4/2021-Regulatory-FSSAI-part(1).––In exercise of the powers conferred under Sub-Section 5 of Section 10 read with Section 37 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (34 of 2006), the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India hereby notifies the following officers as Central Food Safety Officers for the area mentioned against each with effect from the date of publication of this notification by amending the principal notification, published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part III, Section 4 dated the 2nd September, 2021:-
In the table;
(1) no. 66 shall be omitted;
(2) after Sr. no. 77, the following entries shall be inserted in the respective columns namely,-
