Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), through a notification dated February 17, 2025, has issued amendments to its earlier notifications concerning the appointment and jurisdiction of Central Food Safety Officers (CFSOs). These changes are enacted under Sub-Section 5 of Section 10 read with Section 37 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. This amendment modifies the principal notification initially issued on September 2, 2021, and later amended on January 2, 2025.
The latest notification omits entries numbered 40 and 47 from the list of CFSOs and introduces two new officers to the list. Shri Avinash Vajrapat has been appointed as a CFSO for the Eastern Region, overseeing the States and Union Territories in this jurisdiction. Similarly, Shri Sameer has been assigned to the Northern Region, covering the States and Union Territories under this area. These appointments come into effect immediately upon the publication of the notification.
This amendment reflects FSSAI’s ongoing efforts to optimize the enforcement of food safety laws across various regions in India. The changes address the growing need for effective governance in food safety administration, ensuring regional-level compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The Act empowers CFSOs to monitor compliance, conduct inspections, and take enforcement actions when necessary, contributing to improved public health standards.

No. RCD-15001/4/2021-Regulatory-FSSAI -In exercise of the powers conferred under Sub-Section 5 of Section 10 read with Section 37 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (34 of 2006), the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India hereby notifies the following officers as Central Food Safety Officers for the area mentioned against each with effect from the date of publication of this notification by amending the principal notification, published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part III, Section 4 dated the 2nd September, 2021:-
In the table;
(1) no. 40 and 47 shall be omitted;
(2) after Sr. no. 73, the following entries shall be inserted in the respective columns namely,-
