The Department of Financial Services (DFS) under the Ministry of Finance has clarified that it has not instructed banks to close inactive Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) accounts. As part of this initiative, banks will also conduct re-KYC for all due accounts. The DFS actively monitors the status of inoperative PMJDY accounts and has advised banks to engage with account holders to reactivate them. The department notes a consistent increase in the total number of PMJDY accounts and has no information regarding widespread closures of inactive accounts.
