The Unique Identification Authority of India has reported strong public adoption of the new Aadhaar App, with nearly 14 million downloads since its launch on 28 January 2026. The app, available on Android and iOS platforms, is witnessing an average of over 100,000 downloads daily. Designed as a secure, privacy-first digital identity solution, it enables Aadhaar Number Holders to carry, share, verify, and manage their Aadhaar digitally. Around 1 million residents have updated their mobile numbers through the app, 357,000 users have locked or unlocked biometrics, and nearly 800,000 have downloaded e-Aadhaar. Key features include face verification, biometric lock/unlock, authentication history viewing, and QR-based contact sharing. The app supports up to five Aadhaar profiles on one device and facilitates use cases such as hotel check-ins, hospital admissions, age verification, and event entries, reflecting growing trust in digital identity services.

The Unique Identification Authority of India is witnessing strong public adoption of the new Aadhaar App, underlining the growing trust of residents in secure, digital, and convenient Aadhaar services.

UIDAI has observed almost 14 million downloads of the new Aadhaar App so far. This achievement highlights the app’s role in making Aadhaar more accessible, user-friendly, and instantly available to people across the country.

The Aadhaar App is a next-generation mobile application designed to provide Aadhaar Number Holders (ANH) with a secure, convenient and privacy-first way to carry, share, show and verify their digital identity. Its available in both android and Apple IOS platforms.

The new App, which was dedicated to the nation on 28 January is witnessing on an average over 100,000 download a day. The utility of the new App is only growing, and it is bringing Aadhaar services to residents’ fingertips. It has already helped 1 million residents to update their mobile number in Aadhaar; 357,000 ANHs have locked or unlocked their biometric using the Aadhaar App. Similarly, almost 800,000 residents have downloaded e-Aadhaar using the new App.

The app also have advanced functionalities such as face verification for proof of presence, biometric lock/unlock in a single click, viewing of authentication history, and a QR-based contact card for easy sharing of contact details.

Designed for ease of use across the entire spectrum of users, the Aadhaar App supports a wide range of real-life use cases. These include hotel check-ins through Offline Verification Seeking Entity’s (OVSE) QR code scanning. It facilitates, age gating, hospital admissions for visitors and attendants, event entries, verification of gig workers and service partners among many such use cases. UIDAI is also developing offline verification ecosystem with registration of various entities to utilise features of Aadhaar App for ease of availing it’s services.

It allows management of up to five Aadhaar profiles on a single device, enabling the concept of “One Family – One App.” In addition to address updates, residents can now update their registered mobile number through the app, with more update services planned in the future.

This huge adoption also reflects UIDAI’s continued commitment to leveraging technology for enhancing service delivery, improving user experience, and strengthening digital infrastructure. Regular updates, enhanced security features, and the simplified interface have all contributed to the app’s widespread acceptance among residents across age groups and regions.

As adoption continues to rise, the Aadhaar App is set to play an even greater role in enabling convenient, secure, and inclusive digital identity services for all. This massive downloads marks not just a number, but a growing movement towards a more digitally empowered society.
