The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) issued an advisory warning members, students, and the public about fraudulent calls, emails, WhatsApp messages, SMSs, and other communications falsely claiming association with ICAI. According to the advisory, imposters are misrepresenting themselves as ICAI office bearers, officials, committees, regional councils, or branches to seek sensitive information, banking details, OTPs, and payments through unofficial channels. These fraudulent communications also include misleading announcements, unauthorized study materials, suspicious links, QR codes, and fake recruitment or examination-related messages. ICAI clarified that it never seeks confidential information such as passwords, CVVs, or OTPs through calls or messages and that all official communications and payments are routed only through authorized ICAI platforms. The Institute advised stakeholders not to share personal information, click suspicious links, or rely on unverified messages. ICAI also warned that misuse of its name, logo, and unauthorized communications may invite legal and criminal proceedings.
