Navi Mumbai: A 43-year-old chartered accountant was brutally thrashed by a few men just outside his Sanpada residence, near Palm Beach Road , even as shocked pedestrians and his building watchmen looked on helplessly.

Both the hands of the CA, Sanjay K Mittal, have been fractured. There are multiple injuries on his ribs and damage to his left eardrum.

“On February 4, around noon, I was physically dragged by an estate agent, Praveen Sudharkaran. About 10 others, including one Sanjay Doke, then slapped, punched and kicked me for 15 minutes outside my society gate,’’ recalled Mittal.

He had to be hospitalised at the municipal hospital in Vashi and was also medically examined at Sion Hospital for his severe injuries.

The Turbhe police did arrest two of his attackers, Sudhakaran and Doke, for the assault under the IPC sections 325, 506 (2) and 34 but they were soon out on bail.

“Though I have promised myself to fight my attackers legally in court, my wife and two school-going daughters are worried about our safety. This has also shaken the other residents of our housing society,’’ said Mittal.

The problem between Mittal and Sudhakaran (an agent of Luxury Real Estate) arose earlier when he asked the agent to show him a flat on the resale list in Sanpada. The chartered accountant did not like any of the flats shown and later decided to buy a new flat directly from the builder in Shivdarshan Housing Society.

However, Sudhakaran demanded that brokerage charges must be paid to him as he had first shown him the house, which Mittal flatly refused, leading to a friction between the two.
“I got to know that the builder did pay a brokerage of Rs 25,000 to Sudhakaran for this sale but he insisted that I too should pay extra,’’ Mittal said.
His wife, Nilanjana, added that the police did not immediately come to their rescue despite several calls to the control room and Turbhe police.
However, senior inspector B D Sonavane said: “My officials rushed to the spot in 15 minutes and we also arrested Sudhakaran and Doke after lodging the FIR.’’
The CA maintained that he had only asked Sudhakaran to show him old, second-hand flats on resale. The flat he bought now was a new one.
But Sudhakaran said that he was angry with Mittal as his brokerage charges of Rs 92,500 remained unpaid. “I should have been paid the full amount. We had an argument on this issue on February 4 and Mittal hit me first, injuring my neck so I also hit him,’’ said Sudhakaran.

He denied that 8 to 10 persons had beaten up Mittal.
