The 18-year-old Matunga resident, who ended her life last week, took the drastic step as she feared that she hadn’t done well in her chartered accountancy examination. Parents of Shivani Seth, who jumped to death from the fifth floor of her building on January 14, told the cops that she was depressed ever since she sat for the CA exams on December 26 and 27.
A bright student, Shivani was pursuing a course in CA simultaneously with graduation. The SIES College student had told her parents that she was unhappy with her performance in the exam. Shivani’s mother counselled her and told her that she could do better in the second year, said
senior inspector of Matunga police station, S L Deshmukh.

Minutes before jumping off the building, Shivani had called up one of her friends and told her that she was upset at not being able to do well in the CA examination. She then immediately switched off her mobile. Shivani’s friend called up her elder brother and sister, both of whom stay near Shivani’s building, and told them about her conversation with Shivani. By the time they reached Shivani’s building, the teenager had ended her life.
