Ministry of Finance, through Notification No. 57/2025 – Customs (N.T.) dated 17 September 2025, has amended Notification No. 62/1994-Customs (N.T.) to update designated customs ports in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. The changes clarify and expand the list of notified locations under section 7 of the Customs Act, 1962. Against serial number 7A of the original notification, the earlier reference to “Minicoy Islands” has been substituted with “(1) Minicoy Islands,” indicating itemisation of ports for Lakshadweep. Additionally, a new entry has been introduced for “(2) Agatti Island,” which is now officially designated for customs purposes limited to unloading of baggage and loading of baggage. This effectively adds Agatti Island to the list of notified customs stations in Lakshadweep, alongside Minicoy. The amendment ensures proper customs administration and regulatory compliance for passenger movement and baggage handling through Agatti, which serves as one of the key access points to Lakshadweep. The update is part of the broader framework under Notification No. 62/1994, which specifies customs ports and airports across India. The principal notification has undergone multiple amendments over time, with the last revision before this being Notification No. 81/2024-Customs (N.T.) dated 14 November 2024. By incorporating Agatti Island, the government aims to facilitate legitimate passenger travel while maintaining oversight of baggage movement in the island territory.
