The Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) has issued a new instruction to all customs authorities, updating the list of authorized officers and entry points for food imports. The instruction, which modifies a previous order from July 2024, is based on recent notifications from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The FSSAI has reviewed its policy and added six new entry points for food imports, bringing the total to 165. These new points include LCS Darrangain in Assam, SEZ-MEPZ in Chennai, ICD Raipur in Chhattisgarh, two SEZs in Bharuch, Gujarat (Jubilant and HBS Panoli), and Bhubaneswar Air Cargo in Orissa. The authorized officers at these locations will include FSSAI officials as well as customs personnel like Superintendents, Appraisers, Inspectors, and Examiners. The CBIC has directed officials to take necessary actions to inform their staff about these changes and to bring any difficulties to the Board’s notice. This update aims to streamline the import clearance process for food products at these new locations.

Reference is invited to Customs Instruction No. 17/2024-Customs dated 05.07.2024 regarding authorized officers under Section 25 read with Section 47(5) of Food Safety Standard Act, 2006 and Regulation 13(1) of FSS (Import) Regulation 2017 and FSSAI Notifications dated 03.05.2024 and 21.06.2024 issued from File No.1-1715/FSSAI/Imports/2017(Pt.1) (copies enclosed) .
