The Ministry of Law and Justice’s Department of Legal Affairs has forwarded a request from Advocate Mayur Jugtawat to the Secretary of the Bar Council of India, urging the digitization of Certificates of Practice and Bar Licenses (ID Cards) via Digilocker. The ministry has asked the Bar Council of India to implement this initiative to support e-governance and e-courts integration. Advocate Jugtawat’s proposal aims to make these essential documents digitally accessible for all advocates, ensuring ease and convenience. By storing Bar ID cards and Certificates of Practice on Digilocker, advocates can efficiently manage, share, and verify their documents electronically.

The Government of India’s request to the Bar Council of India to issue Bar licenses and practice certificates via Digi Locker represents a forward-thinking approach to legal administration. This initiative not only promises to enhance the convenience and security for legal professionals but also aligns with the country’s broader digital transformation goals. By embracing such digital solutions, the legal sector can improve its efficiency, transparency, and accessibility, ultimately benefiting the entire legal ecosystem in India. The successful implementation of this initiative will be a notable step towards achieving a fully digitized and modernized legal system.
