The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) recently issued an order suspending Reliable Analytical Labs Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai, citing non-compliance with regulatory obligations.

Reliable Analytical Labs Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai, held FSSAI recognition and accreditation for conducting chemical and biological testing of food samples under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. However, the lab failed to adhere to Regulation 9(1)(m) of the Food Safety and Standards (Recognition and Notification of Laboratories) Regulations, 2018, which prohibits misrepresentation or activities that may bring disrepute to the Food Authority.

The suspension, effective from 8th May 2024, prohibits Reliable Analytical Labs Pvt. Ltd. from conducting sample analyses for a duration of six months. This action underscores the FSSAI’s commitment to upholding stringent quality standards and maintaining the integrity of food testing procedures.

Subject: Suspension of Reliable Analytical Labs Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai–reg.

Reliable Analytical Labs Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai bearing FSSAI Reg. No. 21/W/FSSAI/2014 and FSSAI-NABL Certificate No. TC-5854 (Integrated) was recognized and notified by FSSAI u/s 43(1) of FSS Act, 2006 vide Gazette Notification S.O. 917(E) dated 1st April 2015 for Chemical and Biological scope of testing to carry out the analysis of food samples under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and Rules and Regulations made thereunder.

2. It is noted that the said Laboratory has failed to comply with Regulation 9(1)(m)-Obligations of Food Laboratories of the Food Safety and Standards (Recognition and Notification of Laboratories) Regulations, 2018 which states that

“it shall not make any misrepresentation or carry out any activity which may bring disrepute to the Food Authority.”

3. Thus, the aforementioned laboratory is hereby suspended with effect from 8th May 2024 from carrying out analysis of samples under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and Rules and Regulations made thereunder as per regulation clause 10(2) read with clause 10(1) (iv) and 10(1)(v) of the Food Safety and Standards (Recognition and Notification of Laboratories) Regulations, 2018 for six months.

4. This issues with the approval of the Competent Authority.
