The Union finance minister had introduced the Finance Bill, 2010 in the Lok Sabha on February 26, 2010 and proposed to tax 8 new services. On May 8, 2010, the President gave her consent to the Finance Bill and thus the Finance Act, 1994 (14 of 2010) has come into effect from that date. SERVICE TAX IS BEING IMPOSED ON THE FOLLOWING SPECIFIED SERVICES:

RPCD.CO.RF.AML.BC. No. 84/07.40.00/2009-10, May 14, 2010 Government of India vide its Notification No. 7/2010-E.S.F.No.6/8/2009-E.S dated February 12, 2010 has amended the Prevention of Money-Laundering (Maintenance of Records of the Nature and Value of Transactions, the Procedure and Manner of Maintaining and Time for Furnishing Information and Verification and Maintenance of Records of the Identity of the Clients of the Banking Companies, Financial Institutions and Intermediaries) Rules, 2005. Direct tax Collection for 2009-10 may fall short of target

The direct tax collection for 2009-10 is likely to be around Rs 3.80 lakh crore, missing the revised target by Rs 7,000 crore (Rs 70 billion). “The final figure will be available in mid-May when all the transactions are compiled. As on date it is somewhere around Rs 3.78 lakh crore…it may be Rs 3.80 lakh crore,” Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) chairman S S N Moorthy said at an Assocham seminar.
