Sensex is calculated using the Free-float Market Capitalization methodology. As per this methodology, the level of index at any point of time reflects the Free-float market value of 30 component stocks relative to a base period. Circuit Filter/Circuit Breaker is the band that set upper and lower limit within which stock / Sensex can fluctuate on any particular day. These filters restrict extreme price movement and curb price manipulation to some extent by stock operators. Circuit Filter also protects investors from extreme price fluctuation.
The revenue department is opposed to abolition of Securities Transaction Tax (STT) as the levy helps keep a tab on investments in markets and track flow of unaccounted funds. STT helps in overall regulation and keep a check on cost involved. The stock exchanges have been asking the Finance Ministry to abolish STT arguing that such a step would help in boosting investments in stock markets and promote equity culture in the country.
We often do comparison with Chinese economic growth. One must remember they have easy guidelines for promoting investments in their economy. China’s cement industry for the rapid development of domestic production capacity could lead to a surplus situation, at all levels within and outside the industry have been discussing with the call for the domestic large-scale cement enterprises to go abroad, to foreign investment. They have grown well within the house and plan to move further. China’s cement enterprises go out consists of three levels: Firstly, the cement exports, and second, cements technology and equipment companies go global, three cement manufacturing companies invest and build factories overseas. We need strategies like this to grow and expand Indian cement industry.
