The Government has said that the IPO price is fixed by the issuer based on an analysis of the quantitative and qualitative factors of the Issuer Company, market sentiments, and demand for the scrip as assessed during road shows etc. The freedom to fix the price band rests with the issuer, who generally does so in consultation with the merchant banker.
Corporate affairs minister Salman Khurshid said his ministry is studying ways to prevent over-pricing of initial public offers and monitoring the end use of funds raised through IPOs to prevent fund diversion.Khurshid also said his ministry is examining the report of the expert group to suggest steps for monitoring the end use of IPO funds.
The government today said it is looking into the report submitted by the expert group set up to suggest steps for monitoring the end-use of IPO funds and would take appropriate action to prevent misuse of IPO money.”The report (of expert group) has been submitted. We will certainly read the report carefully. But we can only tell you the finding after we finish reading it,” Corporate Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said when asked about the findings of the report.
An IPO is when a company which is presently not listed at any stock exchange makes either a fresh issue of shares or makes an offer for sale of its existing shares or both for the first time to the public. Through a public offering, the issuer makes an offer for new investors to enter its shareholding family.
