CBI ARRESTS A SUPERINTENDENT OF SERVICE TAX COMMISSIONERATE AND AN ASSISTANT ENGINEER OF LIC IN SEPARATE BRIBERY CASES

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Superintendent working in the Service Tax Commissionerate, Bangalore for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.15,000/- from the complainant.

A case was registered against Superintendent, Service Tax Commissionerate, Bangalore U/s 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for demanding a bribe of Rs.15,000/- from the complainant for accepting the NIL report filed by him.

CBI laid a trap and the accused was caught red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.15,000/- from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses. Search was carried out at the premises of the accused.

The arrested accused was produced before the Special Judge for CBI Cases, Bangalore and was remanded to judicial custody.

In another case, CBI has arrested an Assistant Engineer(Electrical), LIC of India, Divisional Office, Jabalpur (MP) for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.10,000/- from the complainant.

Based on a complaint, a case was registered against an Assistant Engineer(Electrical), LIC of India, Divisional Office, Jabalpur (MP) U/s 7 of PC Act, 1988 on the allegation of demand of bribe of Rs.20,000/- for showing official favour in preparation of and payments of bill amounting to Rs.93,000/- against the electrical maintenance work done by the complainant in LIC Office.

A trap was laid and the Assistant Engineer(AE) was caught red handed while demanding and accepting partial bribe amount of Rs.10,000/- from the complainant. Searches conducted at the official & residential premises and locker of the accused yielded a recovery of cash worth Rs.51,500; 23 gold ornaments; FDR worth around Rs.11.15 lakhs; Shares of different companies and pass books having a total of around Rs.1.99 lakhs.

The arrested accused was produced before the Special Judge, CBI Cases, Jabalpur and remanded to two days Police Custody. Presently, he is on bail.
