A CBI Court in Jodhpur has convicted and sentenced P.K. Sharma, the former Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (CCIT), and Shailendra Bhandari, a former Income Tax Officer (ITO), to four years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 1,10,000 each in a bribery case. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) initiated the case on March 31, 2015. The investigation involved a trap where a private individual, Chandra Prakash, was caught accepting a Rs. 15,00,000 bribe from the complainant, allegedly acting on instructions from Sharma and Bhandari. Following the recovery of the bribe and subsequent conversations, all three were arrested. After the completion of the investigation, the CBI filed a charge-sheet against the two IT officials and the private person in the Special Judge, CBI Cases, Jodhpur. After the trial, the court acquitted Chandra Prakash Katta but found the former CCIT and ITO guilty, leading to their conviction and sentencing on September 26, 2025.

CBI Court sentences Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (CCIT) and ITO, Jodhpur to 4 Years Imprisonment in a Bribery Case

The CBI Court, Jodhpur, today, i.e., 26.09.2025, convicted and sentenced the accused P.K. Sharma, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, (CCIT), Jodhpur and Shailendra Bhandari, ITO, Jodhpur to 04 Years Imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 1,10,000 each in a bribery case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the instant case against P.K. Sharma, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Jodhpur, Shailendra Bhandari, ITO, Jodhpur and others on 31.03.2015.

CBI laid a trap and caught Chandra Prakash @ Chandu (Pvt. person ) red- handed while having accepted bribe of Rs.15,00,000/- from the complainant, as per directions of the accused Shailendra Bhandari, ITO and the accused P.K. Sharma, CCIT, Jodhpur. Pursuant to the recovery of bribe amount from Chandra Prakash and subsequent conversation held among Chandra Prakash, Shailendra Bhandari and P.K. Sharma, they all were arrested.

After completion of investigation, a charge-sheet was filed against P.K. Sharma, CCIT, Jodhpur; Shailendra Bhandari, ITO, Jodhpur and Chandra Prakash Katta in the Hon’ ble Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Jodhpur.

The Hon’ ble Court, after trial, acquitted accused Chandra Prakash Katta (Private Person) from all the charges. The Court, convicted and sentenced CCIT and ITO Jodhpur to 4 Years Imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 1,10,000 each in the case
