The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case on the allegations for possession of disproportionate assets against CS Bharti, a 1994-batch Indian Revenue Service who was Posted as Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, Gandhinagar and his wife for abetting him in the said offence.

Searches were conducted at various premises of the accused persons in Kolkata, Dehradun, New Delhi and Ahmedabad. Incriminating documents regarding alleged assets in the form of certain immovable properties including in the name of wife & relatives of accused have been recovered during the searches. The documents are being scrutinized.

 The said Additional Commissioner of Income Tax was earlier arrested by CBI  for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 30 lakh from a construction company — Drishti Constructions — to help it in the scrutiny and assessment of its Income Tax returns.

    In last 10 years, near about 25 JCIT/Addl.JCIT have been booked by the CBI. Vigilance of the CBDT failed to do the job. In fact, the Vigilance is headed by the an IRS and IRS perhaps have no courage to handle their brothers.
