On August 27, 2024, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested five individuals, including the Principal Commissioner of Income Tax for Patna and Dhanbad, in connection with a bribery case involving Rs. 10 lakh. The arrests followed allegations that the Principal Commissioner was demanding and accepting illegal payments from various assessees to grant undue benefits through abuse of his official position. The CBI initiated the case based on evidence of a cognizable offense and has conducted searches at 21 locations in Patna, Dhanbad, and Noida, uncovering incriminating documents and items. The arrested individuals, including the Principal Commissioner and four private persons, are scheduled to appear before the Court of the Special Judge, CBI Cases, Patna on August 28, 2024. The investigation is ongoing.

CBI ARRESTS 05 ACCUSED INCLUDING A PRINCIPAL COMMISSIONER OF INCOME TAX (PATNA & DHANBAD) AND 4 PRIVATE PERSONS IN A BRIBERY OF Rs 10 LAKH FROM DIFFERENT ASSESSEES OF INCOME TAX

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested 05 accused including Principal Commissioner of Income Tax (Patna & Dhanbad) during exchange of illegal gratification of Rs. 10 lakh from different assesses of Income Tax.

On the basis of the information disclosing commission of a cognizable offence, CBI registered a case on allegations that accused was demanding and accepting illegal gratification from different assessees of Income Tax, under his jurisdiction to cause undue benefit to them by abuse of his official position. It was also alleged that there were several conduits who were working on behalf of the Principal Commissioner of Income Tax (Patna & Dhanbad).

Searches are being conducted at around 21 locations in Patna, Dhanbad and Noida (U.P.) which led to recovery of incriminating documents and articles.

All accused persons will be produced at the Court of Ld. Spl. Judge, CBI Cases, Patna tomorrow i.e. 28.08.2024.

Investigation is continuing.
