The CBI today arrested an Assistant Director working in Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) at Ludhiana for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 3000/- from the complainant for processing his files relating to Duty Entitlement Pass Book (DEPB).
Directorate General of Foreign Trade deals with formulation and implementation of foreign trade policy. The Regional Licensing Office of Joint Director General of Foreign Trade at Ludhiana caters to the whole of State of Punjab. The office deals with various foreign trade related matters and issues relating to custom duty.
A complaint was received by Anti Corruption Branch of CBI Chandigarh from a businessman in Ludhiana regarding demand of bribe by Assistant Director, DGFT for processing his files relating to Duty Entitlement Pass Book (DEPB). Acting on the complaint, a case was registered and trap was laid. The accused was caught red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 3000/- from the complainant.
