Stellantis India and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited (TMPV), along with its subsidiary Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited (TPEM), have announced the signing of a definitive agreement to broaden their strategic partnership. The agreement, unveiled on 12 October 2026, aims to enhance collaboration in advanced technology and product development. This development builds upon a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in February 2026, marking a significant expansion of the companies’ longstanding alliance.

Under this new agreement, TMPV will provide Stellantis with access to its advanced product technology and vehicle architecture. Stellantis plans to leverage these resources through its product development and engineering capabilities in India, targeting more than 50 global markets. The vehicles developed under this partnership will be manufactured at Fiat India Automobiles Private Limited (FIAPL), a 50:50 joint venture between TMPV and Stellantis, located in Ranjangaon, Pune.

The agreement underscores India’s growing significance in the global automotive industry, particularly in vehicle development, manufacturing, and exports. By utilising India’s competitive engineering strengths and manufacturing scale, the collaboration aims to accelerate export ambitions and establish India as a pivotal node in the global production network. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director & CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, highlighted that the partnership reflects the strength and competitiveness of TMPV’s capabilities in advanced vehicle technology and architecture.

Tianshu Xin, Chief Operating Officer of Stellantis Asia-Pacific Region, emphasised the importance of partnerships in creating value across the Asia-Pacific region. By combining Tata Motors’ strong capabilities in India with Stellantis’ global product development and market reach, the agreement is expected to foster the development of competitive vehicles in India and expand export potential across international markets. The collaboration also reinforces India’s role as a strategic manufacturing and development hub for Stellantis.

Analysts view this partnership as a strategic move that aligns with the global trend of automotive companies seeking synergies to enhance technological capabilities and market reach. The collaboration is expected to bolster both companies’ positions in the global automotive market, leveraging India’s strengths in engineering and manufacturing.
