The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Superintendent of Service Tax, Central Excise, Customs & Service Tax, Nadiad (Gujarat) for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 2000/- from the Complainant.

A case was registered on a complaint from partner of a firm who had applied for obtaining of Service Tax Registration Number in the said office. It was alleged that the Superintendent of Service Tax demanded Rs.2500/- as bribe from the complainant for providing the relevant registration certificate early.

There was negotiation regarding the bribe amount and it was reduced to Rs.2000/- During investigation of the case, a trap was laid. The Superintendent was caught red handed while demanding and accepting the illegal gratification of Rs.2000/- from the Complainant. Searches were conducted at the office & residential premises of the accused at Nadiad and Ahmedabad.

The accused will be produced today before the Jurisdictional Court at Ahmedabad .Investigation is continuing.
