Modification of Customs Rule Regarding Carrying/Wearing Gold for Passengers Flying from Abroad to India

There is no proposal under consideration of the Government to modify the existing rules with regard to carrying/wearing gold for passengers flying from abroad to India. In the Budget 2012-13, the Baggage Rules, 1998 regarding carrying/wearing gold for Indian passengers flying from abroad to India after residing abroad for over one year was modified to increase the limit of jewellery free of duty upto an aggregate value of Rs. 5000 by a male passenger and Rs. 1,00,00 by a female passenger.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Finance, Shri J.D. Seelam in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.
