The three pragmatic farm laws passed by the government with the best of hope, belief and conviction that it will usher in a better life and improve the income of the farmers have been torpedoed by section of the farmers belonging to Punjab, Haryana and Eastern U.P through their uncalled for agitation causing human lives and damaging the economy of the nation leading to repeal the Acts by the government. It is for the first time that such dynamic laws were passed by the government under much needed agriculture reforms. No worthwhile reforms were undertaken till now under land, labor and agriculture because of the assumed political backlash.

The repealing of the agriculture reforms laws has created an unprecedented situation where by it is proved that a miniscule section of farmers can keep the nation under siege and get away with impunity forcing the government to repeal the duly enacted law even before implementation. The repealing of the laws is not going to end the agitation but will keep it under boil with other newly invented demands as has been already raised by clamoring to have the MSP to be guaranteed by the government. The core intent of the agitators and the supporting political dispositions is more than against any reforms but to dislodge the duly democratically elected government by encouraging the fissiparous tendencies to perpetuate a hidden agenda of creating chaos and anarchy affecting the economy of the nation and safety and security of the country and to serve the vested interest of the affluent section of the agriculture sector more of that particular area.

As anticipated the cat is out of the bag and the hidden agenda of the opposition politics has been revealed when the parliament function of the Upper House was disrupted and a dozen parliamentarians were suspended for unruly and un-parliamentary behaviors. Besides, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), the union of the agitating farmers, has announced their decision not to end the farmers protest till their other demands are conceded which hither to be not pressed for. The Rajya Sabha Chair took serious view of “the abuse of the rules of the house persistently thereby wilfully obstructing the House through their unprecedented acts of misconduct, contemptuous, unruly and violent behaviour and intentional attacks on the security personal….lowering the dignity of the house.” But instead of tendering their apology for their ignoble acts of hooliganism inside the Upper House, they plan their dharna justifying their shameful conduct to get their suspension vacated. The CCTV footage reveals the true picture of what had happened in the Upper House.

Every right thinking citizens and most of the farmers knew that the farm laws by and large reformist helping the farmers to augment their income and giving them the power to decide what they feel good for them and liberating them from the clutches of the middle men. If so, what made the Prime Minister to apologize to the nation that he failed to convince a section of the farmers and that these laws are being withdrawn in the national interest? Many interpretation of P M’s speech have been emanating from various sources. Prime Minister Modi being a shrewd and calculative politician, whatever he did may be with a definite intent behind it. The action of repealing farm laws may seem to have dented the image of Prime Minister as a tough task master but succumb to the pressure of the farmers and political opponents and he is vulnerable. Some interpret it as a political decision on account of the ensuing elections particularly in Uttar Pradesh. The repealing of the laws may also be construed as a tactical withdrawal for a future gain.

Whatever may be the reason, the repealing of the laws may give raise to further demands not only from the farmers but from other sources also raising various contentious issues pressurizing the government with their nefarious claims with sole intention of weakening the government to destabilize the government. Besides, the ongoing onslaught on the Modi government and Modi personally, being carried out by the lutyens and netizens group and a section of foreign media will create a further spurt to their tirade against democratically elected majority government of P M Modi.

The government nursed their right intent when they enacted the pragmatic agriculture laws which was unfortunately forced to repeal through unconstitutional means. Now the repeal of the laws has become a fait accompli, the government should draw their Lakshman Rekha on the clutch of unreasonable demands. It is high time that the government should stand firm on reforms measures unmindful of the consequences or else it will buckle under pressure and perish.  At the same time the government should undertake all such steps to arrive at a consensus with the opposition parties to pass the bill in unison. But equally important is to stand firm in the face of unreasonableness and pressure tactics.
