There have been some news stories in the media in the last couple of days about the Reserve Bank of India discussing/considering various options of converting idle gold, including that available with temple trusts, into bullion.

The Reserve Bank clarifies that no such proposal is under its consideration at this juncture.

    Hello,

Actually the RBI clarification is not monetising trusts gold.
Apart from trusts, individuals own 8/10K mt of gold.
Approx 32/34K mt total must be held in India.

But Banks do have GDS [gold deposit scheme.]As per RBI norms.

In fact the commerce minister, Mr.Anand Sharma has mooted the idea & possibly the new Guv; can implement it. [of course he will not announce his monetary policy till Sept; 17th or 18th till he hears from Fed declaration.]

When Turkey did it to stabilise [they are also gold lovers like India] why it can’t be practised by asking pvt. individuals, offering them tax concessions!?

In the recent past major quantity of gold has been imported by speculators & hoarded it.

It’s pertinent to verify customs data, IT returns & that to ensure ‘gold’, is not parallel currency for high value transactions by the unscrupulous.

    Regards,

GOD WILL BE HAPPY IF GOLD OF TEMPLES IS USED FOR PUBLIC WELFARE
We know, say and believe by soul and heart that “KAN-KAN ME HAI BHAGWAN, JAN-JAN ME HAI BHAGWAN”, so anything done for public welfare will be taken in right perspective by BHAGWAN, as well as ALLAHA, AND ALMIGHTY GOD known, felt, imagined and prayed by any name, symbol, or in any manner.
We should not be afraid that if we transform or disturb wealth of temples, churches, maszids, gurudwara,… god will be annoyed. God never get annoyed. If one get annoyed, then he cannot be god.
God will be happy and will feel satisfied if such properties are used for welfare of his creatures and a large load from his head is taken away for making life of jan –jan that is god better.
If there is god and if you believe in god, then never be afraid of god. God will always be kind and do good for all and never do anything which goes against public interest.
There will be no harm if gold, silver, precious stones and other valuable unproductive assets lying with temples and other worship places and Trusts running them are brought to productive and economic channels of our country. God can help to improve our economy for welfare of public and improvement of goodwill and image of our country.
We can say that savings in temples are for public and it must come to help public.
