The NSWS Portal (National Single Window System) is an online platform created by the Government of India to help businesses get all the approvals, licenses, and registrations they need in one place. Instead of visiting different government departments separately, a business can use this portal to find out which approvals are required, apply for them, upload documents, pay fees, and track the status of applications. It makes starting and running a business easier, faster, and more transparent. The portal also provides information on government schemes and allows investors to manage multiple projects through a single dashboard.

NSWS supports 32 central ministries and 31 State / Union territories in various business approvals.

The Know Your Approvals (KYA) feature of the NSWS portal enables users to identify the specific approvals that can be obtained through the platform.

Any entity intending to apply for approvals through the NSWS portal must first create an account. The following information is required for account creation:

1. Name of the Entity

2. Permanent Account Number (PAN) of the Entity

3. Official Email Address

4. Mobile Number

5. Details of the Individuals Managing the Entity’s Affairs (such as Partners or Directors)

In addition to completing the online registration form, the account creation process involves two essential verification steps:

1. PAN Verification of the Entity on the Portal

2. Association of the Enterprise’s Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)

Once the registration on the NSWS portal is completed, the user can identify and select the required approvals through the Know Your Approvals (KYA) link. Within this section, the applicant must choose the specific approval needed and the corresponding Ministry or Department from which the approval is to be obtained.

Once you select the required form in the NSWS portal, you must link your login credentials for the respective ministerial or departmental portal. For example, if you are applying for an Explosives Licence, you will need to link your PESO portal account by entering your PESO login credentials in the NSWS portal after choosing the appropriate form under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

After this linking process is successfully completed, the corresponding service details and application status will automatically appear on your NSWS Dashboard as shown below.

The corresponding service details and application

If you click the “Go to Ministry Portal” link, the NSWS portal will automatically log you into the respective ministry’s portal, where you can fill out and submit the application. After completing the form and uploading the required documents, you must proceed with the payment of the applicable fees. Once the payment is made and the application is submitted, you can track the status of your application by logging into your NSWS portal.

Please note that approvals mandated to be obtained through the NSWS portal cannot be applied for directly on the concerned ministry’s portal. If you attempt to do so, the ministry portal will redirect you to submit the application through the NSWS portal only.

I will be publishing additional articles explaining the procedures involved in filing applications for various approvals through the NSWS portal. You may contact me for further guidance on any matters related to the above topics.
