The Economics Offences Wing (EOW) of Chandigarh police Wednesday evening booked two city-based chartered accountants in a land-related fraud case, said the police.  According to the police, they have booked the accused for cheating and criminal conspiracy.

‘We have received a complaint from Nirmal Grewal, a resident of Punjab’s Kharar town, against two chartered accountants of Chandigarh. They had struck a deal of 833 acres land with Grewal. This land was located in a village near Kharar town and was registered in the names of Grewal’s sons and grandsons,’ said an official of EOW here late Wednesday.

He added, ‘The deal was struck at Rs.29 lakh per acre few months back. The accused had paid the money through cheques which later bounced. The complainant has also named a Chandigarh lawyer Mukesh Mittal and director of a company Sanjeevani Infotech in his complaint. Our investigation is on and very soon we will make more arrests.’

Kharar town, in Mohali district of Punjab, is around 10 km from the state capital Chandigarh.
